The owners, Tom and Grace Azzopardi, are a local family with a strong desire to assist children to have a happy childhood and to reach their full potential throughout life. Prior to opening Altona Early Education Centre, Grace Azzopardi worked in Altona as a registered psychologist, with a passion for assisting children and families reach their full potential. She has also undertaken years of voluntary work at the Royal Children’s Hospital, assisting children with various developmental challenges. Grace also has a passion for assisting parents to overcome their obstacles so that they can create a happy home environment for their children.

Having placed their own children in local childcare, Grace and Tom saw a need for a modern, purpose built facility that can deliver what it promises. It was out of this desire that Altona Early Education Centre was formed.

Both Tom and Grace will be working at the center on a daily basis. You can always stop by their office for a chat and they will listen and respond to your needs. Grace is a licensed facilitator of the ‘1-2-3 Magic program’ for 2 – 5 year olds. So, not only we will help care for your children at the centre, we can assist you with your job at home.

Tom and Grace believe that a childcare center is only as good as the staff you employ and the conditions you give them. Altona Early Education and Care employ only the best staff available and ensure they are here for the long-term. So, not only are the children happy to attend our centre, but the staff are as well. So, your child will enjoy their time at the center and look forward to their next visit.

Altona Early Education Centre aims to exceed all of the five learning outcomes, as set by the national Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). These are:

  1. Children have a strong sense of identity.
  2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
  3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
  4. Children are confident and involved learners.
  5. Children are effective communicators.

Good curriculum is ever changing and responsive to your child’s individual needs. As your child grows, and experiences life, their needs will change also. So, your child’s educator will gather information and create a curriculum to foster your child’s unique learning requirements. This information will be shared with you on a daily basis.

We understand that our role as educators is only part of the picture. We encourage parents to work collaboratively with us to ensure all other factors in their child’s development are supported. These include:

  • Good physical and mental health
  • Positive, healthy environment, nutrition and sleep.
  • Balanced and appropriate stimulation (i.e. outdoor play opportunities, quality time with parents, limited electronic stimulation, lots of talking and reading)
  • Well bonded and nurtured by parent/s, family and friends.
  • Plenty of opportunity to explore, experiment and play with friends and on their own.
  • Acknowledgment of their individuality by allowing choices (i.e., trial and error, trying a new task with or without assistance, encouraging small risk, providing positive feedback)
  • Opportunities for socialization to establish good interpersonal relationship, communication skills and self-identity. This can be achieved in individual, pairs & small group experiences.
  • Heuristic play and hands-on, interactive learning environments with open-ended discussions to encourage thinking and creativity.

Sam – Centre Manager

Hi I’m Sam. I’m the Centre Manager for Altona Early Education Centre. I have a little girl Shelby, who at 2 years old, keeps me very busy and entertained! I come to Altona EEC with over 20 years experience in the Early Childhood Industry. Initially I enrolled in Uni as I had a passion to work in an industry that was rewarding as not only do you have the opportunity to care and educate for children, you have the pleasure in watching them grow and develop. Seeing them leave each day with a smile on their face is priceless. I have completed various courses over the years in Early Childhood, as well as Business and Human Resources. Most recently I was employed as an Operations Manager for a large company overseeing 10-14 Early Learning Centres. I am a hands on person and you will often find me in the children’s classrooms supporting and assisting the Educators in their role but also actively involved having fun with the children. I am very passionate about Sustainability and Community involvement. This you will see throughout our every day practices at Altona EEC. I look forward to meeting your child and your family and forming a great partnership with you and being a part of the journey of your child’s early years.
