ABOUT US

The owners, Tom and Grace Azzopardi, are a local family with a strong desire to assist children to have a happy childhood and to reach their full potential throughout life. Prior to opening Altona Early Education Centre, Grace Azzopardi worked in Altona as a registered psychologist, with a passion for assisting children and families reach their full potential. She has also undertaken years of voluntary work at the Royal Children’s Hospital, assisting children with various developmental challenges. Grace also has a passion for assisting parents to overcome their obstacles so that they can create a happy home environment for their children.

Having placed their own children in local childcare, Grace and Tom saw a need for a modern, purpose built facility that can deliver what it promises. It was out of this desire that Altona Early Education Centre was formed.

Sarah the Centre Director works 5 days a week and is available to answer all your questions. She is happy to book you in for a tour of the service and looks forward to meeting you soon.

Tom and Grace believe that an Early Education Centre Thrives with Passionate Educators and therefore offer exceptional support along with above award wages and the opportunity for all educators to upskill their current Qualifications and interests, so not only do the Children feel empowered and Happy in the service but so do the Educators.

CURRICULUM

Altona Early Education Centre aims to exceed all of the five learning outcomes, as set by the national Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). These are:

  1. Children have a strong sense of identity.
  2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
  3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
  4. Children are confident and involved learners.
  5. Children are effective communicators.

Good curriculum is ever changing and responsive to your child’s individual needs. As your child grows, and experiences life, their needs will change also. So, your child’s educator will gather information and create a curriculum to foster your child’s unique learning requirements. This information will be shared with you on a daily basis.

We understand that our role as educators is only part of the picture. We encourage parents to work collaboratively with us to ensure all other factors in their child’s development are supported. These include:

  • Good physical and mental health
  • Positive, healthy environment, nutrition and sleep.
  • Balanced and appropriate stimulation (i.e. outdoor play opportunities, quality time with parents, limited electronic stimulation, lots of talking and reading)
  • Well bonded and nurtured by parent/s, family and friends.
  • Plenty of opportunity to explore, experiment and play with friends and on their own.
  • Acknowledgment of their individuality by allowing choices (i.e., trial and error, trying a new task with or without assistance, encouraging small risk, providing positive feedback)
  • Opportunities for socialization to establish good interpersonal relationship, communication skills and self-identity. This can be achieved in individual, pairs & small group experiences.
  • Heuristic play and hands-on, interactive learning environments with open-ended discussions to encourage thinking and creativity.
