The owners, Tom and Grace Azzopardi, are a local family with a strong desire to assist children to have a happy childhood and to reach their full potential throughout life. Prior to opening Altona Early Education Centre, Grace Azzopardi worked in Altona as a registered psychologist, with a passion for assisting children and families reach their full potential. She has also undertaken years of voluntary work at the Royal Children’s Hospital, assisting children with various developmental challenges. Grace also has a passion for assisting parents to overcome their obstacles so that they can create a happy home environment for their children.

Having placed their own children in local childcare, Grace and Tom saw a need for a modern, purpose built facility that can deliver what it promises. It was out of this desire that Altona Early Education Centre was formed.

Sarah is our Centre Director, she has 18 years’ experience in Early Education and is as passionate today as the day she started in the industry. Sarah works 5 days a week and can be seen wearing many different hats in her role as Mentor and Leader, she loves the team environment and can be seen working in the rooms to make sure the educators and children feel supported and engaged. Families often comment about Sarah’s friendly nature, attention to detail and exceptional communication skills. Please feel free to give Sarah a call and book a tour or have a chat about bookings over the phone.

Tom and Grace believe that an Early Education Centre Thrives with Passionate Educators and therefore offer exceptional support along with above award wages and the opportunity for all educators to upskill their current Qualifications and interests, so not only do the Children feel empowered and Happy in the service but so do the Educators.

  • Altona Early Education Centre’s menu is developed in partnership with our children, families and local paediatric dietician Melanie Bouras.
  • Assessment of our menu via Feed Australia shows our menu not only complies with guidelines but exceeds the standards of most childcare centres throughout Australia.
  • Our qualified cook, Gabby, prepares meals on-site using fresh, local produce every day. We serve breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late snack daily.
  • In addition to serving fresh and nutritious meals, staff encourage children to have a healthy relationship with food and be willing to eat a wide variety. We achieve this by working closely with families, our dietician and involving children in the whole process.

Altona Early Education Centre aims to exceed all of the five learning outcomes, as set by the national Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). These are:

  1. Children have a strong sense of identity.
  2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
  3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
  4. Children are confident and involved learners.
  5. Children are effective communicators.

Good curriculum is ever changing and responsive to your child’s individual needs. As your child grows, and experiences life, their needs will change also. So, your child’s educator will gather information and create a curriculum to foster your child’s unique learning requirements. This information will be shared with you on a daily basis.

We understand that our role as educators is only part of the picture. We encourage parents to work collaboratively with us to ensure all other factors in their child’s development are supported. These include:

  • Good physical and mental health
  • Positive, healthy environment, nutrition and sleep.
  • Balanced and appropriate stimulation (i.e. outdoor play opportunities, quality time with parents, limited electronic stimulation, lots of talking and reading)
  • Well bonded and nurtured by parent/s, family and friends.
  • Plenty of opportunity to explore, experiment and play with friends and on their own.
  • Acknowledgment of their individuality by allowing choices (i.e., trial and error, trying a new task with or without assistance, encouraging small risk, providing positive feedback)
  • Opportunities for socialization to establish good interpersonal relationship, communication skills and self-identity. This can be achieved in individual, pairs & small group experiences.
  • Heuristic play and hands-on, interactive learning environments with open-ended discussions to encourage thinking and creativity.

We take pride in being one of the best small, boutique and homely long day care centres in the Western Suburbs. Unlike most centres being built today, we offer:

  • Small room sizes and small centre. Studies show improved academic, social and emotional development in children who attend smaller centres.
  • Higher qualifications amongst staff. Most of our educators are diploma qualified or above.
  • Higher educator to child ratios. There are more staff to care for your child, our above ratios enable us to give your child and family the highest quality of care.
  • Owner-operated. The owners are onsite daily and are hands-on, ensuring exceptionally high standards of care.
  • Free weekly Incursions. Weekly incursions are included in daily fee, no out of pocket costs.
  • Loving, homely setting. From the moment you walk in the door, you and your child will feel a sense of belonging and a part of our centre family.
  • Casual days. To support you during a last-minute change of plans, or to replace lost days during public holidays (subject to availability).
